JLPT N5 – 5-Month Learning Plan
In the first month, students will start by learning Hiragana and Katakana, the basic building blocks of Japanese writing. They will practice reading, writing, and pronunciation while getting comfortable with simple greetings and self-introduction. Basic grammar, including the desu/masu form, will also be introduced, along with common vocabulary and essential phrases for everyday use.
The second month focuses on forming basic sentences and understanding N5-level kanji (around 100 characters). Students will learn to use verbs, adjectives, and particles to construct meaningful sentences. Topics like numbers, time expressions, and giving directions will be covered, and listening practice will be introduced with slow, easy conversations.
By the third month, students will start expanding their knowledge with more verb conjugations, including the past tense, negative forms, and te-form. They will learn how to ask questions, make requests, and express simple opinions. Reading and writing practice will focus on short paragraphs, helping students build confidence in comprehension.
The fourth month is all about strengthening skills. Students will learn counters, comparisons, and how to give reasons using grammar patterns like “kara” and “node.” Speaking practice will involve role-playing conversations, and reading exercises will include short passages and dialogues. JLPT-style listening exercises will help students get accustomed to the test format.
In the final month, the focus will shift to revision and exam preparation. Students will go through all the grammar and kanji they have learned, take full-length mock tests, and work on improving their reading speed and comprehension. Listening and speaking drills will boost their confidence, ensuring they are fully prepared for the JLPT N5 exam.
JLPT N4 – 5-Month Learning Plan
The first month will focus on strengthening the basics. Students will review N5 grammar, kanji, and vocabulary while beginning to learn new N4 kanji (around 300 characters). They will be introduced to casual and polite speech variations and practice expanding their daily conversation skills.
In the second month, students will dive into more advanced grammar, learning complex verb forms like potential, causative, passive, and volitional. They will master adjective and noun modifiers and practice reading and understanding longer sentences. Listening exercises will focus on natural speech speed to improve comprehension.
The third month will focus on intermediate-level reading and listening skills. Students will work on longer dialogues and comprehension passages while learning how to express opinions, desires, and plans. They will also practice using conjunctions to connect ideas smoothly. Role-play conversations will help them apply their learning to real-life situations.
By the fourth month, students will focus on exam strategies and fluency building. They will learn nuanced grammar, including keigo basics, conditionals, and relative clauses. Reading comprehension will be strengthened with longer articles and stories, while JLPT-style listening exercises will help refine their understanding of spoken Japanese. Structured speaking practice will improve their fluency.
The final month will be dedicated to exam preparation and final revisions. Students will review all N4 grammar, kanji, and vocabulary while taking full-length JLPT mock tests. Focus will be placed on improving reading speed and accuracy in listening comprehension. Final practice drills will help students gain confidence, ensuring they are well-prepared for the JLPT N4 exam.
